Stage Fighting
What a marvellous afternoon was had today in the Moray Street Clubrooms as Raymond Short introduced us to Stage Fighting. 16 members of Wick Players ,4 members of Thurso Players, Meg Fraser, Tom  MacGovarn were there as Raymond started off by learning us to relax our muscles - there were a few there that didn't know that they had any muscles left! - After this exercise we started by learning how to slap, punch the face , the stomach, knee someone in the stomach, knock them to the floor, kick them in the head and finish it off by dragging them around by the hair ! This may sound all very violent but it was amazingly effective. When we had all learnt and practiced the moves we were split into groups of three to set up a scenrio and act it out in front of our fellow pupils. In a few short hours we had learnt the basics which will hopefully we can use in the future . Look out for action packed Pantos!!

As you showed an interest in the www.62clips.co.uk Road Safety Video Competition, I thought it might be worth drawing your attention to a National Road Safety Video competition that I have just come across online – The date for entries to be handed in is a week later than the competition that I am running, and I emailed them to check that people from Caithness can enter. Theirs is a National Comp so there will be a little more competition – but they are offering 3 prizes of £1,000 and three of £250!!

If anyone you spoke to showed an interest in entering the www.62clips.co.uk competition then it would probably be worth telling them about the ‘In The Can’ competition and they could enter their video in to both.

The closing date for www.62clips.co.uk is 23rd April and the ‘In The Can’ competition is 30th April.

The ‘In The Can’ competition is open to anyone under the age of 21 – individuals or groups, and their current entries can be viewed on their website at http://www.inthecan.org.uk/entries-youtube.php

I am a final year Broadcasting student from Thurso and I am currently running a road safety campaign/video competition aimed at 12 - 18 year olds in Caithness. There are some really fantastic prizes and i thought that the Wick Players most probably has a number of young members with a flair for storytelling.
Full details can be found at http://www.62clips.co.uk
but in a nutshell -
Road Traffic Accidents are a huge problem in locally and I am desperately trying to encourage young people to consider various aspects of road safety - this can be pedestrian, car, push bike - ANYTHING.
I am asking them to produce videos up to 60 seconds MAX with a road safety theme.
there are two categories
Ages 12 - 16
and
Ages 17 - 18
There are prizes of driving lessons and an HD video camera, and the competition is ONLY open to residents of Caithness.
Please let anybody know who you think might be interested.
Entries are to be in before midnight on the 23rd April 2010, giving the Easter break to work on projects.
ALL entries are going to be screened in the Cinema space at Caithness Horizons.
If you have any questions at all then please feel free to email me directly
Best Wishes
